What is my Christmas like?

Write what you think.

The New Year is coming and I want to tell you about its celebrating here. We have no 'standard' celebrating of this holiday in Russia nowadays. Everyone spends his time according to his wish. Some people prefer celebrating with their families at home ( and so do I). We have a New Year Tree (a fir-tree always), a lot of traditional New Year's meals (several types of salad, some baked meat) and champaign. This holiday is never celebrated without champaign in Russia. Usually we stay up the whole night and go to bed only at 8 a.m. on January,1. We always have a lot of fun, give each other presents. As this holiday is the most loved by the Russians, we always buy presents for all the members of our families, all our friends and some collegues. We have a lot of fun on December,31 evening and night, organize small funny contests with prizes and quizes. Sometimes friends gather in someone's family to celebrate the New Year. Some people prefer staying alone at home on the holiday night, but they never have problems with having fun as our TV offers a lot of excellent New Year programmes ( I usually record the whole night show of my favourite channel and watch it afterwards because I have enough fun without TV that night).
Another variant of celebrating the New Year is to go out with your friends to a night club or a restaurant. Some people enjoy spending this holiday out of the city in the forest or in their summer houses (so does Raissa).

The 25-th of December is Christmas Day. It is a happy holiday for many people in different countries. Some weeks before Christmas people are busy. They send greeting cards to all their relatives and friends. You can buy Christmas cards or you can make them yourself. Many children make their cards at school. People buy a Christmas tree and decorate it with toys, colored balls and little colored lights . On Christmas Eve people put their presents under the tree. When children go to bad, they put their stockings near their beds. At night Father Christmas comes. He has got a big bag of presents for children. He puts the presents in the children's stockings. Have you ever heard about Christmas carols? They are religious songs sung at Christmas. At Christmas time groups of people sing carols, both indoors and outdoors. They usually collect money for homeless and poor people. Sometimes carol singers, especially children, go along the streets from house to house, singing in front of each house and asking for money.

I'm so excited for christmas! What is your christmad like? Mine is not very exciting, but it is a really good family time. All the food and the gifts just make it so happy, and the christmas tree glitters and shines very brightly. Now there are only 9 days left. This week at school will also be very fun, because we have a dance and then only go for half of the day on friday. Do you have school dances?? My teacher told me that you were in the hospital for an operation! I hope that you areok, and will be better soon. Did you get the christmas parcel that we sent to you guys? i hope you did and that everyone will enjoy the gifts that we sent you. Christmas for my family isn't anything specail. I spend christmas eve with my mom as well as christmas day, my dad comes over in the morning and we open our gifts. Then we go over to my dads house and spend time with my family there. Christmas dinner is huge! we feed about 9 or 10 people so we have a 23 pound turkey. This New years, were going to Mexico with my dad, where we regularly stay home. Thats my Christmas!

Lots of different people throughout the world have different traditions and customs at christmas time. My family goes to a church on Christmas eve. When we get home we go to bed quite early. but, usually a few weeks before christmas we decorate our house with a huge christmas tree and decorate our house with garland and lights to get into the christmas spirit. On christmas day usually the kids in our family wake up the earliest and go to our stockings and see all the goodies thatwe got. Then we usually have breakfast with the whole family and we open presents one at a time usually in some sort of order. After we are done opening presentss we start making the turkey and we have dinner later in the evening.

My christmas consists of many different things. We go out and buy a tree and decorate it with many colorful ornaments a week before christmas, we then put all our gifts under it. On christmas eve we each open one present and then go to bed. In the morning we have a special breakfest then open all our presents. At night we go to our aunts or grandmas house for dinner.
