Every student in
Alberta writes 4 common exams- Math, Language Arts, Science and Social
Studies. The test are are not well likes by the teachers. Although
the tests are written for one purpose, the results are used to compare
schools and districts and that upset some people. In Calgary for
example, schools in the lower social economic areas never do well on the
test. The results get published in the paper. We are fortunate
- our school does well in all 4 area so we are seen as one of the top academinc
schools in Calgary.

The Tom Baines School students have an annual Multicultural Fair in March. All the grade 7 students prepare a project on a different country around the world. They have to research economic and social aspects of their country and then put together a display to show off that evening along with a snack that would be eaten in that country. There are usually 74 countries represented - Russia is one of them.
